For the group project, we need to make an AR or VR design prototype for an artefact from the museum or art gallery. In order to scope out what is available for us to work with, we visited the two locations to scout out potential design subjects.
The artefacts displayed at both locations were similar in the sense that they all related to aspects of history, society, and nature. However, what differentiates the art gallery from the museum was the inherent artistic purpose and intention of the piece. Pieces from the different locations could convey the same message, but the presentation and background would greatly differ. Due to the sheer diversity of subjects and topics we could choose from, we focused on comprising a collection of artefacts we feel most attracted to in a creative design sense.
Once the visits were completed, the photos taken of each artefact were shared with the whole group. A vote was taken to decide on what’s of the group’s main interests. In the end, the two most popular artefacts both related to aspects of native birds and Māori/New Zealand culture. Instead of finalising the one, we kept our options open for review on Monday’s lecture so we could choose the best design subject.
