Design Statement

My grandparents need a lamp with more accessibility and adjustability, but the aesthetic is just as important due to their motivation for a new and exciting design.

Visualisation Prototype

Strengths of Design

Meets the statement requirements of accessibility, adjustability, and aesthetics.
Versatile accessibility is achieved through a phone app controlled light bulb. This means that the light can be turned on and off anywhere within the signal range.
A flexible gooseneck and smart LED light bulb grants the lamp a lot of adjustabilities. The lamp neck can be posed to direct light to needed areas and the light is dimmable with the phone app.
The aesthetic fits the target users' tastes and is unique by applying a modern twist on traditional elements seen in Chinese art, architecture, and furniture.

Specification Prototype

Improvements needed

Sizing of the lamp needs to be revised. For a better fit, more observation is needed in regards to room size, furniture size, and placement.

The bayonet holder was not considered in the prototypes. The design of the lampshade connector needs to be changed so that the holder can fit comfortably inside.

Needs to redesign wiring and coding of light bulb and structure of lamp so that it can be turned on and off with both a switch and controller.

Clients wish for a battery pack that can be charged through a wire plugin so that the lamp can be more portable. This also means that the frame could be thicker to be more suitable as a handle.

Legs could be thicker to ensure better stability. Bigger curls at the tip to further support the lamp base.
